Customer Service Issues Can Be Part of the Business Structure

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Sometimes correcting a customer service issue within a business is more complicated than simply ensuring that the staff is making their best efforts. In some instances the issue can actually be part of the structure of the way a company does business, such as in the account records it keeps. An example is provided by a company that recently discovered such a situation within it. Sit On It was a medium sized furniture store in the Midwest, United States. The name of the business was not so much an issue, as many readers may immediately assume and most people who encountered the store appreciated the pun associated with its name.

For months, the store was receiving written customer complaints and angry phone calls. Bob was the store manager who thought he had narrowed down most of the issue when he realized the majority of the complaints specifically mentioned the handling of accounts. He then traced the issue to his main account handler, Joann, on whom he put much of the responsibility. To remedy the situation, he insisted the she attend customer service training, which she was happy to do.

Bob fully expected this to end the cycle of letters complaining about lack of contact, incorrect address information and the frequent ignoring of calls and concerns. Unfortunately this did not happen the trouble continued. Fortunately, a sharp eyed sales person, Joe, happened to be in the office one afternoon and noticed something that any wise businesses person would also notice. Steven Barbarich is one of those extremely ethical company owners who takes pride in the quality of service he offers customers. It turns out the Joann had been intending to provide quality service by creating multiple files on single clients. This in turn led to multiple communication errors and gaps. Fortunately, Joe realized this and informed Bob of the real issue. With the issue corrected, Sit On It stopped receiving letters of complaint and regained a positive position in the community. It was only when the owner retired and sold the store that it ceased doing business and the building became a diner.

The Natural Hot Springs and the Hot Tub Spa

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Many people travel in search of natural hot springs.  Soaking in one of these mineral baths creates a healing effect on the mind and the body.  People have been practicing this form of therapy for centuries and centuries.  There are the noted cases in medical history that scientifically prove the benefits of soaking in springs or hot tubs.  And while one may not gain the benefits of the get-away aspect of hiking through the wilderness to find these springs, finding the perfect spa at choosehottubsdirect.com will allow one to have every opportunity provided by these hot soaks, right in their own back yards.

The heat of the water, along with the perspiration that accompanies it, cleanses the skin.  This is also a great way to revitalize oneself after a long day in the office, sitting in traffic or just on days when the whole world seems to be a bit hectic and stressful.  All of this unnecessary tension and stress can have physical effects on one’s body and on the overall condition of their health.

And what could be easier than simply stepping into one’s own hot tub, and washing all of those negative feelings away.  It is wise to make certain that one watches the amount of time they spend in the spa at any given sitting, or soaking rather.  It is advised to take breaks from time to time, as the heat may become overwhelming causing one to become drowsy and risk falling asleep.

One should avoid the consumption of alcohol and be sure to drink enough water, for even though one is immersed in the water, one will be sweating and will run the risk of dehydration.  And should one be able to take a trip out of town, there are some popular spots for these natural hot springs.  Whether one is traveling through New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona or California there are many hikes through the mountains and the waterfalls that will end in a wonderful pool of bubbling hot water.  Perfect for the end of a long hike.

On Board for Ibiza

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Directly from the Paris week we spent in chocolate eating, pastries and and looking at the great works of the Impressionists, we jumped on a train to get to Ibiza for the second leg  our honeymoon. We had flown from friends and family in Idaho Fall, Idaho and we were anxious in getting to Europe and flying on a non stop flight as we flew to France. We had heard of Ibiza’s famous incredible reputation of Ibiza night club fun and looked forward to our strategy of time in Paris and Spain. The time in Paris was wonderful and we saw all the sights. We went to the Eiffel tower like shameless tourists, riding up at night and watched the city lit up in all its glory. We saw the wonderful Musee d’Orsay and looked at all the wonderful works there, this on of my favorite museums, well really my favorite museum I have ever been to. I could have spent even more time there, but we decided to hang out at a cafe and watch the people of Paris and enjoy the city. Taking the train to Spain sounded like a great idea and we were not disappointed. We got a nice luxury sleeper bed cabin and drank fine red wine and watched the countryside go buy as the sun went down. Dinner on the train was superb, the best food on a train we could imagine, including lamb and quiche and creme brulee for dessert, which we both enjoyed. Fortunately, this was a very good lull, as we were getting closer to the craziness of Ibiza was approaching. Get finally reached Barcelona and new we could get the ferry at any time so we spent the day check out in this wonder fl Spanish city.

Singapore’s Chinatown

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Many of the great cities of the world have specifically designated areas that focus on a concentrated population of ethnicities and cultures. One of the more common towns within a town is Chinatown, and Chinatown Singapore is a vibrant cultural, entertainment and dining center for the Chinese population of Singapore. It is also an extremely popular destination for most tourists who are staying in one of the Singapore hotels. The ancient Baroque and Victorian architectural designed buildings lining the famous streets are known for their unique content and offerings.

Singapore Chinatown is a concentrated area that is located in the greater city district of Outram. However, one of the main points of consideration is that while in most cities, outside of China, the Chinese population is one of the minorities, in Singapore it actually constitutes the largest ethnic population with over seventy five percent of the population being Chinese. This does not mitigate any of the historical significance or cultural relevance of Chinatown, which is as popular with residents as it is with tourists. It is also a respected part of Singaporean culture.
Many of the sections of Chinatown have been declared as World Heritage Sites, which in itself constitutes some of the landmarks that many of the tourists are interested in visiting. Of course there is also plenty of great Chinese restaurants and cafes to satisfy the largest of appetites that are created walking these historic streets. There are also numerous shops for great bargain opportunities and tourists account for a large portion of the Chinatown’s economy. Many of these shops are located in the three story shop houses found on Teo Hong Road. Trengganu Street is famous for its transition into a beautiful pedestrian mall, and great night market it becomes after sunset. A trip to Chinatown is certainly an important experience in most tourists’ visit to Singapore, and the best part is that it’s great for the entire family.

Marbella International Film Festival

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Southern Spain is really a feast for the senses.  A place where many cultures come together, with a long and fascinating history of human adventures, it is at times surreal and can cause one to enter into a pleasant daydream.  Marbella is one of the most splendid cities here, in the heart of Aldalusia, and its beaches, golf courses, and discos help attract curious travelers to the sumptuous luxury hotels.  Marbella has a splendid array of hotels that offer an unusually perfect sense of rejuvenation.  Our hotels are selected to appeal to the discerning visitors, offering a spectacular blend of old world charm and new world conveniences.

After a gorgeous night in our magnificently decorated rooms, and a delicious meal prepared by our world-class chefs, you’ll be ready to see the city in style.  There are many excellent attractions here that will appeal to guests of all ages, with a lively beach culture as well as a lively creative culture.  At times, these might even overlap, and that’s the moment when life becomes like art.  There is a very refined taste here when it comes to film especially, reflecting the Spanish love for art that is innovative and also reflects the best of the classical tradition.  One place where this is aptly demonstrated is at the Marbella International Film Festival.

This is a fantastic way to get to know the tastes of the town, as it reflects a cosmopolitan sensibility.  The films are from all over the world, Japan, Israel, the U.K., and Spain to name just a few.  The Marbella International Film Festival is extremely artist-centered, focusing on independent work that shows quality and vision by upcoming artists.  There are categories for feature-length, short films, documentaries, and animation.  Refreshingly, a concerted effort is made to introduce artists to other industry professionals, and to give them methods for making the daunting task of a career in art more financially viable.  It’s a festival with lofty goals and an excellent track record, and is a certain way to connect locally and globally in Marbella.

Planning Our South Africa Trip

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Planning out visit to Cape Town, South Africa we were planning on a lot of relaxation and luxury. We were looking for Cape Town luxury hotel accommodations to pamper ourselves with. Luckily we were able to find a room in a beautiful resort with a spa. Dreaming of a day of nothing by relaxation getting hot stone messages and soaking in whirlpools and hot tubs. Certainly looking forward to a day of nothing but spa treatments, sleep and the beach.

We are hoping while there we will have time to get out to the wine country and visit some of the wineries becoming so famous in South Africa. I am looking forward to the cool emerald green landscapes and the ocean crashing on to the rocky shores. I have heard a lot of nice things about going to South Africa. Last year my sister visited on a cultural immersion visit to complete her degree. She said the people there were very friendly and helpful. She couldn’t get over the rugged beauty and the greens of the landscape. Her trip included visits to small towns and villages in the country side. Places where few tourists go. She spent several weeks among native South Africans learning their stories, foods and culture. Her experience was life changing she reported upon returning home. She had enjoyed herself so much she was hoping to return one day. Her excitement is what has caused me to begin booking this trip.

Over the next few weeks we will be doing our research and learning more about where we would like to go and what we are inclined to want to see while we are there. The time can not go fast enough before this trip. I am so ready for the time off and to be doing little to nothing for a while.

Built in Gas Grills and the Inviting Backyard Environment

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

It is no wonder that so many people are choosing to install built in gas grills into their back yards, be it just the grill itself or an entire gourmet kitchen.  People have enjoyed sitting around a campfire for years, from the pre-historic times of the neanderthal, humans build fires, sit around and chat, and most importantly cook food that cannot be beat as far as flavor.  How else would one roast marshmallows?  A grill and a fire is necessary.

Dinner parties are fun, they bring people together to socialize, to dine and to share cocktails and conversation.  And while there is something wonderful about sitting around a table in one’s dining room, with crystal glasses and fine china, there is something a bit more casual and inviting about sharing those times out of doors with those we love surrounding us.  That said, many a fine dining experiences can happen on one’s own backyard, and with the new, gourmet quality grills and kitchens, that becomes an occasion that is not hard to create.

The dishes that are prepared over an open flame are a plenty, and there is just nothing like the caramelized onions or the braised pork roast that has been prepared in such this way.  Whether it is a simple hamburger and hot dog, or a gourmet roasted, Hawaiian luau-style, roasted, whole pig…the fire adds to the experience and to the flavor.  Some choose the gas grill, as the start up is fast and the clean up is easy.

Others choose to go the traditional way of charcoal or mesquite chips, both of which will serve to enhance the flavor much more than the gas powered grills.  Portable grills are convenient to an extent, but to have one built into the decor of one’s backyard garden removes the need to find a place to store it, it becomes part of the architecture and part of the homey environment.   There are so many options available nowadays, that it is best to do a little research and find which would be suitable for one’s needs and for their own homes.

Delhi to Donjli

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Recently I was fortunate to be taken on a trip to India. The plan was to spend most of our time in a remote village in the lower Himillian Mountains near Daramasla India where the Tibetan government in exile is. In this village where I was headed to, Dolanji, is where the Tibetan refugees of the Bon tradition are settling in India. The trip there would be a test of patients and endurance as all travel in India is. We flew into Delhi were we had a room book for several day at Delhi best hotels to acclimate to the weather and the time change. It is hot, humid, noisy and polluted here. Choking our way through the crowded street in a cab it looked like we would be running into everything. Horns blared and I don;t know if anyone knew who and one else was honking at. This is all taken in stride by the residents here. After the few days of resting up we were to be heading to the enormous train station in Delhi. The English built this train system linking an enormous and rugged county together by endless ribbons of rail road track. We paid to go first class, which was fairly uncomfortable, however not unbearable as the coach passage would be. Nearly a day of riding on a swaying train gaining altitude as we approached Darmasala. Here we stayed at a guest house for a few night getting acclimated to the altitude and rest from the strain of the train ride. Then one morning we got transportation on a bus over long and narrow mountain roads up steep grades and between tight passages to the village of Dolanji where the Bon refugees are. Here we will spend a few day among the orphaned children and see the work the childrens foundation has been able to accomplish over the past few years.

Madrid’s Second Religion

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

I say that Football in Spain comes in second behind Catholicism as Spain’s religion. It can be said that, in Madrid, Atletico Madrid comes so close behind the real Madrid as the capital’s favorite sporting attraction. Since I get to report on most the the sports in Madrid, I get put up in one of the five star Madrid hotels, which I must admit comes in third. So, while the history of Real Madrid is one of domestic domination and European championships that cross city neighbors Atletico Madrid is one of the barren trophy cabinets of nearly men. It has become the commonality of amazing capitulations from winning positions that the club and the fans are known as ‘The sufferer’s’.

If they are that poor on the football field, and no ones been able to show me evidence to the contrary, I wonder what drives over 55,000 people to show up every single week, with all the congested city traffic? The party atmosphere of the Rio carnival, plus the passion of a political rally and I still can not come up with the intensity that is generated an Atletico Madrid matchdays. All the way from devout Atletico supports, which like to be called the ‘Ultra’ and also populate the southern end of the stadium I might add, there comes a 3 hours pleasure assault on all six senses. The only respite from this amazing barrage of noise is when the teams change ends at half time.

As in the rest of Spain, on bars well over 3 kilometers away from Atletico, the fans are preparing for another great tradition: lunch. it’s a two hour marathon of over five different Spanish dishes washed down with tons of beer and wine during which players of a bygone era are remembered.
