Dreaming of New York

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

It’s time to take that fabulous trip to New York City that you have been dreaming of. Everything about New York screams urban and fun: the lights, the sounds, the food, and the people.

If you are going to plan this trip, you will first want to take a look at the Hudson Hotel. Located walking distance from Central Park, Columbus Circle and the theatre district, the Hudson is where you will want to stay. The Hudson is known as one of New York City’s “boutique” hotels and offers a unique atmosphere that cannot be found anywhere else. The modern yet luxurious hotel offers all types of room styles, ranging from a standard to the penthouse. The entrance into the lobby includes an ascending escalator which “transports” you both figuratively and literally into a new “world”. With a cutting edge design, a sky terrace, and unbelievable spa services, the Hudson is where you will want to be resting your head at night.
While in New York you will also want to stroll through Central Park, visit Times Square, and take a shopping day. NYC is known as one of the fashion capitals of the world and there is no reason to pass up an opportunity to treat yourself to the beautiful boutiques and designers in New York. One option to condsider is to take a shopping tour, in which a tour guide will take you around to all the best boutiques and even get you into exclusive designer showrooms.
One thing that is a definite must when visiting New York is to see a show. Whether it be a musical or a play, New York has the best theatrical performers and it’s well worth spending a night seeing a performance. The best part is that the hotel is walking distance from all the theatres, so you can grab a bite to eat at a local restaurant and then head over to the show.

New York is one of the most vibrant cities to visit because it has so much to offer. So stop dreaming about that trip and start planning it!

Choosing Between LCD and Plasma TVs

Saturday, February 26th, 2011

Buying a television in this day and age is much more complicated than twenty or thirty years ago. It’s no longer a question of color versus black & white and what size screen to get. Now there are multiple technologies to consider, in addition to size and shape of screen. Many shoppers find themselves wondering whether a plasma or lcd tv is best for them.

As a short guideline, a plasma television uses phosphor-coated plasma cells and electrodes — hundreds of thousands of them. They are placed between two plates of glass. By electrically charging the phosphors, billions of colors are generated, creating a realistic color palette.

Liquid Crystal Display , or LCD, consists of two polarized panels that hold a liquid crystal solution. Each pixel cell generates three subpixel colors either from a light shining through it or, in LED technology, via an electric charge.

In choosing between the two it’s important to note that the HDTV movie experience is heightened by a plasma display, especially for cinematography buffs who look at every detail of a frame or for viewing by large groups of people. LCD TVs are great for game playing, using the TV as a computer monitor or for smaller screen sizes, such as those below 42 inches. LCDs are also better for brightly lit rooms and daytime viewing.

Clothes for Kids

Sunday, December 19th, 2010

Kids seem to never stop growing. This is sometimes more obvious to the extended family and friends than to the parents. After all, the parents see the kids every day, while friends may only see them weekly or even less frequently. In those cases it can seem like the kids do nothing but grow, sometimes several inches between visits.

This constant growth spurt is what keeps the children’s clothing industry running. Kids are constantly outgrowing their clothes and needing new ones. Since so few moms sew these days, that means going out and buying clothes over and over again. It’s also why the dreaded hand-me-down exists as parents attempt to save money by getting multiple uses out of the same pair of jeans or shoes.

Finding clothes in the right sizes is only half the battle. When buying clothing as a present for a kid, shoppers have to watch not only for what they think the child will like, but for the parent’s tastes too. No matter how adorable a pair of tights from baby legs may look on a little girl, if mom and dad don’t like the color or design, it’s a good bet they won’t get worn.

Clothing for their will continue to be a problem for parents until the kids finally stop growing — or until someone invents a fabric that grows along with the kids.

Features Can Help You Choose a Coffee Maker

Monday, November 1st, 2010

Hunting for a new coffee maker for your home or office? Or maybe you’re buying a house-warming gift for a loved one and you know their old coffee maker is on its last legs. There are so many machines on the market now, from bunn coffee makers to french press machines and even espresso makers, it can be difficult to choose.

The best thing to do is to identify those features that are essential to your needs and then the features that would be great if you can afford them. It is then a snap to find the machine that has all of the first category and enough of the second category without breaking your budget.

A feature that can be a deal breaker for coffee lovers is the method of brewing. The main types of machines are drip, percolators, and presses. Each way of brewing coffee has it’s lovers and detractors. Identifying this preference will help narrow the field of available machines considerably. The capacity of each pot is also extremely important.

Other factors can be important or meaningless depending on the coffee drinker. some people require a machine that can be set to brew before they wake. Others have a preference between glass and stainless steal carafes. There are machines with permanent filters, machines with special cycles that reduce bitterness, and even machines for use in high altitudes.

Shopping Without the Stores

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Ten years ago the idea of shopping online was in its infancy. Experienced web users knew how to shop online, but the general population hadn’t caught up. Now that it’s 2010, the idea of doing all of your holiday shopping from a computer doesn’t sound that crazy. Heading out to the nearest mall and dealing with parking, crowds, noise, and poor-stocked stores is what sounds crazy.

If you’re worried about online shopping being too expensive, you can relax. The better retailers offer free or discounted shipping and usually run the same sales online as they do in their stores. And the more you buy, the bigger the discounts. If you do a little research, you’ll find websites that are full of promo codes , which are the equivalent of coupons, for all your favorite stores. Enter the promo code during the online checkout process and watch the final total drop.

Another benefit to shopping online is the larger inventories available. When you order direct from the source you don’t have to hope that the store manager stocked up on the exact color and size you prefer. In addition, retail warehouses have much more space available, so they are able to offer many more items. You can choose from fifty different blue ray players instead of the ten models that your local electronics store carries.

So, sit down at your keyboard and start shopping. You don’t even have to get out of your pajamas to make sure that everyone on your list gets exactly what they wanted.
