American Actor Robert De Niro was born in New York City on August 17, 1943. He is one of the most critically acclaimed film actors in the country, and has also had success as both a producer and director. And while he is primarily a film actor, and New York is greatly known for its theatre, Robert De Niro is certainly one of the city’s shining stars, and any tourists who is staying in one of the top New York City hotels will certainly have seen one or more of his films and have a strong association of him to this great city.

De Niro was born to Virginia Admiral and Robert De Niro Senior, both of whom were painters. His father was also a sculptor. Young De Niro grew up in the Little Italy section of Manhattan. He found his passion for acting early in life and made his stage debut as the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz at the age of ten. He is well known for his method technique of acting, and studied under both Lee Strasberg and Stella Adler, part of the famous New York method acting schools, though they had there own academies.

Since his decision to pursue a career in film, De Niro has achieved great success and respect, a nearly impossible feat in the film industry. He has won numerous awards, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor his performance in The Godfather Part II. Shortly thereafter he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Raging Bull. He has also won numerous other awards and has been nominated for several Academies, including those for his roles in Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, Awakenings and The Deer Hunter. De Niro is considered by many of his peers and other professionals to be the greatest working actor of his time.
